Description:
Abstract: 195 cities in Idaho are represented as point features with 2000 population as an attribute.
Purpose:
This SDE layer was developed for use in ArcIMS Image Map Services. A minimum number of attributes were retained to enhance preformance of the Internet application. This layer provides a reference and cartographic layer that makes it easy to identify areas on other feature layers.

The 2000 population data were downloaded from Idaho Department of Commerce web site (http://www.idoc.state.id.us/Data/dtacntr.html). The name of the file downloaded was 'City Population 2000' (Excel format). There were 201 records in the file. The IDOC obtained the data from the US Bureau of the Census. The file indicates that the data were released in March 2001.
Logical Consistency Report: 195 point features present. No tests were preformed for logical consistency.
Completeness Report:
The 2000 population data were downloaded from Idaho Department of Commerce website (http://www.idoc.state.id.us/Data/dtacntr.html). The name of the file downloaded was 'City Population 2000' (Excel format). There were 201 records in that file. 198 of those records joined up by 'Name' with the Source shapefile table. There was no Fernan Lake Village, Dalton Gardens, Hayden Lake, Huetter, Parkline in the shapefile .dbf.
There were two Eagle & two Pinehurst records in the shapefile table. I'm pretty sure that the Eagle I want is near Boise so I'll delete the one up North. Delete both Pinehurst entries because I don't know which one has the correct population figures. So, we ended up with 195 final records.

Downloaded the cities shapefile (cities_id_idwr.tgz) from INSIDE Idaho
Downloaded City Population 2000 (Excel format) from Idaho Department of Commerce (http://www.idoc.state.id.us/Data/dtacntr.html). There are 201 records in the file.
Exported the data in the Excel file to a .TXT file.
Joined the .TXT file to cities_id_idwr.dbf by 'Name' in ArcView 3.2a. using the join command.
Of the 201 records in the population file, 198 joined up. There is no Fernan Lake Village, Dalton Gardens, Hayden Lake, Huetter, Parkline in cities_id_idwr.dbf.

So, we ended up with 195 final records.
Saved as a new shapefile (Theme > Convert to shapefile) and deleted some of the attributes I won't need for the Web Mapping Application. I only need Name, and the 2000 population.
Exported the data to an SDE database using the Export > Shapefile to Geodatabase option in ArcCatalog 8.1. All defaults were used.
